In the field of information technology there is a firewall that actually prevents programs that can positively harm your PC.

There are two directions when it comes to firewall protection. It is very important to protect the data and other important programs.

There are many types of Virus that can Spread from one PC to another through the Network that can harm the hard disk

In normal cases the firewall is set by default to prevent any unknown or unauthorized programs as well as the visitors from entering your system. The access can be from any unknown source.  It could be through the internet, or other networks. A hacker who wants to implant the virus in your PC can do it very easily through Wi-Fi enabled laptops.

You may really wonder how this can really work but it actually does happen. If the access is blocked then it becomes very difficult for the hacker to directly access the site. 

Blocking the Traffic from both sides is not going to serve the purpose.

What we exactly need is a good network but which can be open to good links and authorized sources and not open to unauthorized sources. It is the golden mean between opening and closing the network that has to be achieved. 

While checking this firewall there are a few things that needs to be attended to. The two common protocols are TCP and UDP. While UDP does not require two way connection, TCP requires the same.

When you ping you actually realize that UDP traffic can actually travel in both the direction. You may be actually aware of the portals you may need and the portals that are of no use to you.

 It makes the process simple like you can open the port in which ever direction you need and only you are sure that you need that.

The port that has been set as default has to be closed in both directions to be very safe. 

The most common protocol that is the HTTP is the one that is used for almost all the internet data request, be it sending or receiving.

It is better to configure your firewall to Port 80

There are many banking sites that use this protocol of HTTPs because it is very secure.

FTP still remains the favorite for many for their file transfers from their PC’s to the network. FTP requires the Port 20 for its operations.

There are quite a few e-mail programs that use SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) to send and receive various mail. In such cases Port 25 has to be open so that this function can be carried out smoothly.

There are many e-mail functions .One which is quite popular is POP 3.

If you want to use this then you need to keep the Port 110 for the traffic which is incoming. 

If you are interested in translating the names to the IP address then you need to have a DNS to send and receive the packets.

This might require the Port 53 to be open so that the incoming and outgoing traffic can be managed better. 

You need to open Port-68 if you are interested in using DHCP as this can help in situation where your IP address is assigned and if you want to use this in your current network.

There is yet another networking game that requires you to keep the port 666 open.

This needs to be kept open and should be open only if you are going to use it. By default it should always be closed in both the directions.

This popular networking game is popularly known as DOOM. Apart from those mentioned above there are many more such standard ports that can be used. For example, the port 1433 could be the best for Microsoft SQL.

So, you need to have your requirements put in place before you proceed to choose your port.
