Network Protocols Made Easy

If you are a Computer Novice, you may find Networking Puzzling

However, Small Home Networks are Really Easy to Build

Familiarize Yourself with Acronyms Associated with Networking.

If you gain sufficient knowledge about the terminology, then you can build the home network by carefully following the directions.

The term “protocol”. Perhaps, the technical definition of the word protocol is confusing, but the meaning is typically simple.

Protocol is just the set of rules, which are often needed to be adopted as a standard method in order to start the communication process.

For instance, HTTP protocol for browsers simply specifies the detailed list of methods to pass data.

There are numerous ways that involve protocols to establish a network.

In the past decades, IBM’s SNA network philosophy was widely used by most of the network builders.

The philosophy is still in use all over the world. However, TCP/IP occupies the prevalent position in establishing networks.

Apart from these two protocols, there are still some other protocols available, which are used.

Though the details do attract only professionals, you need to know some aspects in order to carry on the home network building process.

It is essential to know about the router, which is one of the main parts of home network.

Routers come in various types, each having its own protocol. For instance, wireless routers may use 802.11b or 802.11g.n protocol. Though you need not pay attention to the technical details, it is often worth to knowing how they can affect your network.

The first rated throughput is 11 MB. However, in practice, the real throughput is about 6 to 7 MB only.

One byte contains 8 bits. Therefore, the actual transfer rate is 1/8th of what you think of when transferring files. In the future, faster running protocols are expected to be available.

It is quite natural that you do not wish to pay attention to the details about Ethernet protocol. However, knowing it can be beneficial to you in many ways. It helps to remove some sort of weirdness from cryptic computer numbers.

It seems that New Protocols, acronyms and Terminologies are Created every Week.

The professionals and computer wizards need to know them. As a normal computer user, you need not know all those protocols.

Yet it is advantageous to know some of them to build your home network without any hassle.
